Rumors of Daft Punk making an appearance at this year’s Coachella Festival at Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA began after an April 12, 2013 date was listed on VEVO’s page this morning as a single tour date. It was quickly removed from the page but questions have arose over whether a formal announcement is on the way. A screenshot of the page in question is below.
The French electro duo were originally rumored to take part of this year’s Coachella Festival, but were not included on the official lineup when it was announced in late January.
Daft Punk will be releasing their long awaited new album Random Access Memories on May 21, whether Coachella Festival would make sense to gear up for the album’s release.
The 13-track album is now available for pre-order on iTunes, and vinyl and CD copies can be pre-ordered through their new website for the album. So far, only two 15-second trailers have been aired during Saturday Night Live broadcasts featuring two small snippets of new tunes.
Update: Daft Punk’s camp issued brief statement:
“Daft Punk is not performing at Coachella this year.”
