Autre Ne Veut, currently touring in support of Anxiety, played a solid set at the Troubadour, March 12. Songs throughout the night were an interesting mix of ’80s R&B mixed with synths. The evening started with the new single off of Anxiety titled “Play by Play,” best described as an ode to early Prince recordings. Singer Arther Ashin croon while he paced the stage, kneeling as he hit high notes. This scene continued for the duration the night, with the occasional pause while Ashin played melodies from a nearby keyboard. Accompanied by a drummer and additional singer, the dimly lite stage bubbled with the sounds of new songs off the album. The show went on for about an hour and ended with the audience wanting more. Although it was clear by the end that Ashin had given everything he had to give.
