System Of A Down Announce New Album To Come When Time Is Right

Armenian American rock band System of a Down recently took an intermission, from an intermission, to hint to the arrival of a new album sometime in the near future. The band has been absent for nearly nine years, leaving the music scene scorching hot in 2005 after the release of hit albums Mesmerize and Hyptonize. Both albums debuted at No. 1 in the US and abroad, making System of a Down only the fifth artist ever to have two albums debut at No. 1 in the same year.

The band is contemplating the startup for their new project after equally experiencing success as individual artist. Lead vocalist Serj Tankian received critical acclaim after releasing his solo album Elect the Dead in 2007. Daron Malakian (vocalist) and John Dolmayan (drummer) also released an album in 2008 titled Scars on Broadway.

Fans seem to be eager for the band’s return whether in the studio or out. A few days ago, after announcing they would play in their only US date in 2013, tickets sold out hours after going on sale yesterday.

Here’s what Dolmayan had to say about the likelihood of a new album:

We are going to make a new album at a certain point, it’s just a matter of when the four of us decide it’s the right time to make it. We don’t want anyone to go in there and do it because the rest of us want to do it. We all want to do it because it’s the right thing to do for everybody. I wouldn’t want to go in and make an album that doesn’t represent the best that we have to offer. If you force someone in the studio ahead of when they’re ready for it, then you’re probably going to make something mediocre.
