The Sword had the penultimate spot on tonight’s bill. Playing a howling and bounding mix of power metal and stoner rock, it’s easy to see why Metallica championed them so strongly a few years back. Singer John D. Cronise bellows in clean vocals while doubling on guitar. The group makes good use of guitar solos, never heading too far into doom metal or sludge rock. Just the kind of thing for those who like heavy music but aren’t enamored with death metal.
