Garage rockers The Black Lips played a one hour day time set to a full sea of people upstairs at Old School Cafe. Although more laid back than the majority of the shows the band has played at SXSW so far this go-around, it was still full of fun energy, and lots of interaction between the band and the crowd. Guitarist Ian St. Pe jokingly said that they would soon be working with Dave Grohl on a Sound City set, and the band reassured the audience that it as much better that the boys were making music than making food as they introduced a song to be about day jobs. ‘Modern Art,’ and ‘Noc-A-Homa’ off latest effort Arabia Mountain found themselves on the set-list. When a few requests were shouted out, the band responded with ‘We played that last night, and where were you?’ It was also interesting to see drummer Joe wearing a band tee advertising his own band. The Black Lips always offer a more organic good time that’s hard to match.
