Austra Live at Hype Machine’s Hype Hotel

The thumping tunes of CHVRCHES gave way to a mellower performance at Hype Hotel: the hypnotic sounds of Austra. Anchored by breezy frontwoman Katie Stelmanis, the band seemed to glide around the stage in a series of fluid movements, all the while crafting atmospheric tracks like “Lose It” and new single “Home”. Stelmanis and her two enchanting backup singers spun ethereal harmonies, mixing intricate and percussive beats with wall-of-sound power. Austra’s performance was like a delightful reverie during the hectic, hot Austin day.
