While it does appear to be completely accidental, it really seems no surprise Axl Rose was able to knock someone’s teeth out without meaning to.
Guns N’ Roses began their Australian tour with ZZ Top at a stop in Perth this week, and midway through the set, Axl threw his cordless microphone out into the audience. Unfortunately, the mic smashed into fan Darren Wright’s face, breaking out his two front teeth. Wright’s description of the harrowing experience sounds plucked straight out of a good ole fashioned rock ‘n’ roll story:
“With the bright lights and explosions, I couldn’t see anything. The next thing I knew, I was whacked in the mouth. I thought I had been punched. I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realize what was going on. I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.”
Luckily for Axl, Wright says he’s a long-time admirer of the group, and will only be suing to pay for the cost of the dental repair, which equals out to about $5,154 in U.S. coin. This came after tour promoter Andrew McManus tried to offer apologies to the fan by way of a signed microphone – Wright refused, saying, “I don’t think the microphone is going to fix my teeth.”
Guns N’ Roses have two tour dates left with ZZ Top Down Under, so here’s hoping the ticket holders keep aware of the potential rugby-like atmosphere they could be walking into.
