Nick Cave Live at Stubb’s NPR Showcase SXSW 2013

“We’re going to start with a long song, and hopefully by the time we’re done, the sun will be down,” said Nick Cave at the opening of his show headlining the NPR showcase. Always a big event (The Decemerists first played The Hazards of Love in this same spot back in 2009) this was a chance for Cave and his all-star band The Bad Seeds to show off their recent amazing album Push the Sky Away. In te vein of his Grinderman project, this set leaned heavily on the more aggressive side of his sound. “Jubilee Street” was turned into an epic rocking crescendo. Cave strutted throughout the set with an Elvis-like swagger, posturing and posing trough each moment. The set was soulful and transcendent, filled with the artful contemplative structures he’s famous for.
