As the music portion of SXSW 2013 officially kicks off today, rumors of bands said to be making appearances are still, slowly but surely, becoming confirmations. The latest addition to the already stacked Saturday schedule? The Smashing Pumpkins.
The latest leak comes from a Facebook posting (which has since been removed…oops!) by rock group The Sword, advertising RSVP options to attend a joint gig featuring them alongside The Smashing Pumpkins at a Red Bull Pop Up Venue; this one specified by the screenshot above (thanks to crestfallen.com) to be on Saturday the 16th at 310 E. 3rd Street in Austin, and starts at 7:00pm.
The band is currently working on their ongoing concept album Teagarden by Kaleidyscope (2009-present), a 44-track record, releasing each song one at a time in a free MP3 format. The Pumpkins are also working on new material for a separate album release, said to be in the works for 2014. Perhaps those lucky enough to be in attendance at the Red Bull Sound Select this Saturday will hear some new material? Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins will surely be rejoicing either way, as the group’s 2000-2005 hiatus seems to be far behind them.
