Legendary B.B. King @ The Fox Theatre 2/28

The King of Blues is in town – and that would be Riley B. King, or B.B. King. Born September 16, 1925 on a cotton plantation near Berclair, Mississippi. In 1948 he traveled to West Memphis, Arkansas and landed a spot with the popular radio station, WDIA. In 1949 he began recording under contract with LA-based RPM Records and from 1950 on – it’s history. B.B. King is well known as one the greatest guitarists of all time and the most influential blues guitarist. He is said to have played an excess of 15,000 shows in a period of 64 years and has 43 solo albums (including retrospectives) with one collaborative album with Eric Clapton – Riding with the King (2000). King has an honorary doctorate in music from Yale University, awarded 1977, and 15 Grammy’s among other awards. Sinatra is said to be his favorite singer and King credits him for opening doors white-dominated venues to Black musicians. In the 1960’s Sinatra was able to get King into main venues in Las Vegas. B.B. King is a legendary and extraordinary musician. And he is playing [arguably] the best venue in the Bay Area on February 28th.
