The Flaming Lips to Cover Stone Roses Self-Titled Debut Album

The Flaming Lips, who recently announced the release of a new album, have dropped some tantalizing hints about covering the Stone Roses’ debut album.

Just one day after the premiere of their new single “Sun Blows Up Today,” Wayne Coyne posted the above image on Instagram, stating he was working on vocals for “She Bangs the Drum,” which appears on Stone Roses. It won’t be the first time the band covered an album in its entirety: late last year they covered King Crimson’s In the Court of King Crimson, which they titled Playing Hide and Seek With the Ghosts of Dawn.   The news comes during rash of activity from the band since, aside from working on a new album and now this Stone Roses cover, they’re also preparing for a re-release of 1997’s Zaireeka, which fans can buy on Record Store Day (4/20 – mark your calendars).   Stay tuned for more details on this development.
