Wake is an up and coming electronic musician signed to Proximal Records (LA). While full length EP is still in the works, 2011 brought a dotting of singles and remixes including “Cigarette Lust” for Tokimonsta and The Nocturnes “Love,” as well as filling compilations with the likes of Daedelus, Teebs, and Dam-Funk. With 2012 he brought us 2 EP’s: Oakland Blackouts, and The Fifth Finger, the latter of which you can read our review of here, and sold out pressing of an experimental release on Khalija Records. Wake mixes his 808 beats with 80’s electro-influence and a hip-hop backbone, along with a flair of hometown Miami’s color palette (complete with flamingos and booty shorts). An electronic music M.F.A. his booty bass influence doesn’t overpower an I.D.M. prowess in his tracks, but does evolve into a unique blend of emotional dreamscapes and beats. Wake’s quoted intention is “to transport listeners to a cloud city in the sky full of beach parties, robot lovers, and inhuman music.” He will be playing LIVE at Lobot Gallery in West Oakland this Friday, February 1st.
Nonamoan and Castle Man, part of SF’s after hours collective, Body//Current, will bring new back-to-back set of dark house and deep techno to this dance party. Nonamoan is one part of Water Borders, a TriAngle Records duo, and known to bring shuffle techno to darkened dance floor freakouts.
LoBot Gallery is a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse prominent in Oakland’s art and music scene. This dance party will take place within Drift Velocity, an immersion exhibition by two local artists.
