SF’s Noise Pop Festival brings music, art, films, and pop-up shops to venues across the city for 5 nights. The first – Wednesday, February 27th – Brick and Mortar has the pick – Ramona Falls, Harriet, Social Studies, and Mahgeetah.
Ramona Falls is the now-main-former-side project of Brent Knopf of Menomena. Prophet, his second studio album out now, emits an unabashed earnestness in exploring what the songwriter stands for and what it means for him. The album is a rebellion towards what he hid from before, or what he lacked to expose.
Harriet, with their debut EP Tell the Right Story, straddles the line between classic American songs and the sonic experimentation of electronic music. It is dark, abandoned, lustful, exposed.
Both Social Studies and Mahgeetah are up and coming San Francisco bands that have recently been rocking out major local music venues with their catchy melodies and crafty musicianship.
