David Bowie Announces New Album The Next Day For March 2013 Release

It’s been nearly a decade since David Bowie last released a full length recording and has made a public appearance. But on the heels of his 66th birthday, he announces the release of his newest recording (and 26th overall), The Next Day, coming out on March 12 via Columbia. The video for the first single “Where Are We Now” can be viewed below.

The Next Day is his first album since 2003’s Reality. Ironically, his son, movie director Duncan Jones tweeted about this and gave his father a shout out:

Duncan Jones @ManMadeMoon

Would be lovely if all of you could spread the word about da’s new album. First in ten years, and its a good ‘un! http://www.davidbowie.com/the-next-day

In a press release, it explains the making of The Next Day:

“In recent years radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumor and wishful thinking ….a new record…who would have ever thought it, who’d have ever dreamed it! After all David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants…when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today he definitely has something to say. Produced by long term collaborator Tony Visconti, ‘Where Are We Now?’ was written by Bowie, and was recorded in New York. The single is accompanied by a haunting video directed by Tony Oursler which harks back to David’s time in Berlin.”
