Members of Can, the avant-garde band from the 1970s, have formed a new group called Cyclopean and are releasing an EP in February. As Consequence of Sound reports, Jaki Liebezeit and Irmin Schmidt have joined forced with German producer Burnt Friedman and British composer Jono Podmore.
The EP, which is self-titled, will be released through Mute and Spoon on February 4th. Fans not entirely familiar with Can’s work may know them as the band that Spoon got their name from.
As the band’s press release states, Cyclopean as a name is a metaphor for their music.
Cyclopean forms are beautiful, massive and intriguing structures that interlock, intersect and connect seemingly contradictory components.
