Being a “turntable mastermind” can be a bit much for some audiences, as he found this past week. At one Miami appearance during his recent run of tour dates, DJ Shadow’s performance was cut short after playing a set that was “too confusing” for the crowd.
The California DJ, who’s real name is Josh David, had his set cut short at Miami’s mansion nightclub after being requested by the promoter to play Krampfhaft’s “Spit Thunder.” Immediately after, he addressed the crowd by stating “I’ve waited a long time to play here, but they said this shit is too confusing for all y’all.” DJ No Maz replaced him to finish up the set.
Shadow took to his Twitter account and wrote:
“I don’t care if I get kicked out of every rich kid club on the planet. I will never sacrifice my integrity as a DJ…ever”.
Apparently DJ Shadow is not the first to get axed during his set. Previously, New York house DJ Dennis Ferrer has his set list cut short, due to him not being “commercial” enough.
DJ Shadow released his debut album Endtroducing… in 1996, followed by 1998’s Preemptive Strike, 2002’s The Private Press, 2006’s The Outsider and 2011’s The Less You Know, The Better. In 2012 he released Tota; Breakdown” Hidden Transmissions From MPC Era 1992-1996, which is a collection of previously unreleased material from his earlier years.
