Former Kyuss Members Nick Oliveri, John Garcia, Brant Bjork Form New Band Vista Chino

Yesterday, the big announcement came that Nick Oliveri would be re-joining Queens of the Stone Age on their upcoming album. The stoner rock world was hit with more big news today that Oliveri and fellow former Kyuss members John Garcia and Brant Bjork have formed new band called Vista Chino. The group will also include guitarist Bruno Fevery.

The news comes following a judge’s ruling earlier this year that prohibited the trio from performing under the name Kyuss without the word “Lives” after it. That  lawsuit was initiated by former members Josh Homme and Scott Reeder, who objected to Garcia and Bjork’s continued use of the name, specifically through their recent “Kyuss Lives!” reunion tour. The verdict also concluded they could not record any material using the name at all. At the time, the judge recommended that “It may be in the Defendants’ best interest to begin re-branding under a new name.” Now, it seems the desert rockers are doing exactly that.

Vista Chino is currently recording new material with plans for a 2013 album release and subsequent tour. The final live appearances of “Kyuss Lives!” will take place in early 2013 as part of Australia’s Soundwave Festival.
