The dream pop group Memory Tapes is set to release a new album, Grace/Confusion, in December 2012. The installment will have six tracks closing in at over 39 minutes. Grace/Confusion shows a lot of progression and growth from Dayve Hawk’s past work as he forgoes dance music tropes in favor of fragmented hooks and catchy melodies.
About the record, Hawk says:
Discarding any ideas about genre, format or even song structure didn’t feel like a liberation though, more like a mazing to get lost in.
Standouts from the album include the bittersweet love song, “Sheila,” and the dramatically synth track, “Neighborhood Watch.” Grace/Confusion flies all over the musical spectrum from space rock and classic electro to experimental.
