Trent Reznor answered questions posted by fans earlier today on Reddit. He revealed that his TV series project, based on the story line of the Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero, is currently on hold. He is also working on a new song with Queens of the Stone Age to be featured on their new album.
So it looks like fans will have to wait for his television project. He also pointed out that the TV series is in need of another writer. When asked about it, he said:
Let’s start on a down note! This is currently in a holding state. We didn’t find the right match with a writer, and really have been avoiding doing what we should have done from the beginning: write it ourselves. We = Rob and myself. This project means a lot to me and will see the light of day in one form or another.
He was also asked whether he was working on anything in addition to his new EP, An omen_ to which he responded:
A number of things. Tweaking some things for the HTDA full LP (coming in Spring), helping Josh out on a new QOTSA track, working with Roy, starting rehearsals for two bands.
As pointed out by Antiquiet, this will not be the first time he has paired up with the group, having previously worked with them on an unreleased track from the group’s last album titled Era Vulgaris. He is also keeping himself busy with his other band, How to destroy angels_, and he talked about allowing fans to access raw audio files in order to remix them:
We’re open to this. I’m a big believer in remix culture and would have loved to have had access to my favorite artists’ stems when I was coming up. Of course there was the issue of primitive technology way back then… I don’t know, do you want them?
The 1999 Nine Inch Nails album titled The Fragile is currently being remastered for a reissue; when asked about this he answered:
The 5.1 mixes are done and sound amazing. Alan was the only person who could have possibly done it, and he did not disappoint. There are a couple other elements involved that we want to get right before we put this into production. These involve packaging and additional content. Patience, my friends.
Recently, of course, Reznor has helped compose scores for films, including The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. His huge body of work led one fan to compare him to David Bowie and Tom Waits before asking if he would work on another film score. Reznor had this to say:
Thank you. I’m not sure I belong in the same sentence as Bowie and Tom Waits, but I’ll take it. Regarding the Millennium trilogy, my interest in this would be contingent upon Fincher’s involvement.
