FolkYeah!!!, collective hosting live music concerts and intimate festivals in Big Sur and San Francisco, often brings the best of all kinds within the folk genre. Legendary, contemporary, psychedelic, and acoustic; you may just hear your new favorite artist at one of their friendly events. Cairo Gang takes the instrumentation of gentle British 70’s folk with free-form composition and the detached noise of post rock. Often fresh, homespun indie rock gliding into experimental noise reminiscent of psych-folk. Cairo Gang is acoustically organic with flutes and bongos but with decaying distortion on the electric guitar.
Joshua Abrams Natural Society is the composer and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Abrams. Known early on in his career as an acoustic bassist involved in the early days of Philadelphia’s The Roots, he has rose to be one of the gems of the “post-everything musical era.” His numerous musical endeavors include film scores as well as bands, and on a recent album “Represencing” Joshua organizes small group statements around the resonant grooves of the north african ceremonial instrument the guimbri.
Joining Cairo Gang from the Endless Nest Collective, local pop wizard Dylan Shearer will open the set. Shearer released his second full-length LP, Porchpuddles, on Empty Cellar Records this past June. Known as the mysterious new specter on the scene, Shearer’s throaty baritone was “born on the slow-moving winds of some far away coast.” Songs of longing and songs of indifference are bedded together seamlessly in rare, and perfect timelessness.
