Some MCs Could Learn A Lot From This Album
Rhymesayer artist P.O.S.’s 4th studio album We Don’t Live Even Here is released on the heels of the cancellation of his upcoming tour, due to health problems. Hopefully he gets well soon, because these jams have the potential to be fantastic live. The raw energy projected onto each track could jump start the heart of the dead.
On the opening track, “Bumper,” P.O.S. lets his punk roots shine, the open drum and hi-hats beat building a soapbox for him to stand on, and let the verbal assault begin. He proclaims, “Rappers try to act like they labels advance them money still/and acting rich in a shaky and fake economy/might make the indie kid at the awards show snatch a chain and peal.” “How We Land” features Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, and this unusual duo create a perfect paradox. Once again, the drums play a pivotal part, building rage and constructing a rhythm that any sane person couldn’t ignore.
On the title track, P.O.S. states “This world has a whole lot of locked doors/we decided not to live here anymore,” becoming the voice for the thousands of people who feel out of place in this current world, and at the same time, creating an anthem for a new generation.
We Don’t Even Live Here is a firecracker of an album. Once you press play, the fuse is lit, the sparks fly in front of your face, and the parade of thunderous booms are all you hear. P.O.S. will be in our thoughts as he struggles with his medical problems, because it would be a shame for someone to have such a promising future cut short.
