B.B. Cunningham, who had long time connections with Jerry Lee Lewis was shot to death over the weekend.

Rolling Stone reports B.B. Cunningham, the longtime bassist for Jerry Lee Lewis, was shot to death in Memphis. The circumstances are still rather vague but it appears the 70 year old was working as a security guard at an apartment complex. He heard a gunshot from a neighboring building and when he went to go investigate he was shot. Cunningham was found dead with gunshot wounds alongside an unidentified 16 year old male.

Cunningham first became famous for being a member of The Hombres and for co-writing their hit 1967 song “Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out).” He joined Jerry Lee Lewis’ band in 1997 and released his own solo album Hangin’ In in 2003.
