Watch Trent Reznor explain the reasoning of signing How To Destroy Angels to Columbia Records in an interview conducted with David Byrne.
Trent Reznor’s newest project How To Destroy Angels is prepping their first official releases: An Omen EP will be released on November 13th and the follow-up LP is scheduled for sometime in early 2013. Both releases will be put out on Columbia Records. Many people have been concerned with Reznor’s decision to return to a major label after he was very outspoken about being Independent. As reported from Antiquiet Reznor explains his thought process in a discussion with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. In the interview two musical legends converse about the state of the music industry and the pros and cons of being with a major label.
In the interview Reznor explains that self releasing material had its advantages, such as avoiding any hassle of material being leaked early, but the major labels are just better at releases than he is:
“To have people that are better at that than I am; and that felt like it was worth a slice of the pie in the long term. [How To Destroy Angels’] main agenda at the moment was to make people aware in the right context, versus a little bit more money we might or might not have made.”
