Rumor had it that The Replacements were coming back together to record a new track for their former bandmate, Slim Dunlap, who suffered from a stroke in February 2012. More details have been announced confirming this to be true. Read on for more details.
It has been eight months since Slim Dunlap suffered from his stroke. He was hospitalized after suffering “a right middle cerebral artery stroke. He then fell and hit his head, resulting in a left vertebral artery dissection and a right subarachnoid hemorrhage,” wrote Dunlap’s wife, Chrissie.
This reunion would be the first in six years and it is all for good reason and for the love of a fellow band member. But this story then yields the question: Does this mean that The Replacements will continue to play and maybe perform?
Westerberg replied:
“It’s possible. After playing with Tommy last week, I was thinking, ‘All right, let’s crank it up and knock out a record like this.’ I’m closer to it now than I was two years ago, let’s say that.”
The EP will include the following songs:
“Busted Up” – Dunlap’s solo song
“Everything’s Coming Up Roses” – from the Broadway musical, Gypsy
“I’m not Sayin'” – Gordon Lightfoot (1965)
“Lost HIghway” – Hank Williams
Only 250 copies of this 10″ EP will be produced and each copy will be auctioned off and awarded to the highest bidder. As mentioned earlier, all proceeds will benefit Slim Dunlap. It will be released later this year.
