Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle frontman) and Genesis P-Orridge have thrown a couple of harsh towards on Twitter over the past couple of days. Earlier this week, Throbbing Gristle announced the release of a final double album featuring Desertshore, a reinterpretation of Nico’s 1970 album Desertshore, and a second disc called The Final Report. The new double album will drop on November 26 on the band’s revamped record label, Industrial. The former frontman, Genesis P-Orridge, who hit in 2010, was irked about the new material and album development and took to his Twitter account to air his complaints.
Orridge dismissively commented:
“CHRIS & COSEY released the TG records without my consent & have kept all the money. We NEVER quit TG. That is UNTRUE. BOYCOTT their records.”
Carter responded:
“are you sure want to make this a public argument? The TRUTH WILL BE TOLD & we will NOT hold back on FACTS.”
The Tweets turned into a full-fledged argument:
“ABSOLUTELY DO YOU HAVE MY AGREEMENT TO RELEASE TG RECORDS via CARGO?
Nice to see you are following me, we dont follow you…strange you don’t respond to my emails asking 4 facts but go public
After ALL as you not paid me anything anyway what you have we got to lose except TG fans who dont believe one story or another?”
P-Orridge then claimed,
“Chris & Cosey said NO RECORD can TG unless it is ALL 4 of us. DESERTSHORE is NOT a legitimate TG release.”
Carter remarked,
“get your facts straight before accusing us. DS/TFR is NOT being released as a Throbbing Gristle album.”
The Desertshore cover album has long been a work in progress. Production was halted when band member Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson passed away in 2010. The release date, November 26, will be the anniversary of his death.
