It was reported that tickets for the Virgin Mobile Freefest were snatched up in a record two minutes after going on sale. For those who were not lucky enough to get your hands on a ticket for the Virgin Mobile FreeFest back in August, there is a second chance by volunteering at an approved homeless shelter in Maryland, Virginia or Washington through Virgin Mobile’s Free IP program and receiving a free ticket.
Those who volunteer will assist with a variety of activities including assembling bag lunches and snack baskets, painting and gardening to enhance the youth homeless shelters, donating school supplies, amongst many other duties.
Virgin Mobile’s Freefest is in its fourth year at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The concept behind the free music festival is for the attendees to donate a minimum of $10 to The RE*Generation to help youth homelessness.
The program was designed to raise awareness of youth homelessness, and volunteers and fans have given 75,000 volunteer hours and raised over $500,000 for Virgin Mobile’s program to fight youth homelessness, The RE*Generation.
In 2011, supporters helped raise money to open The RE*Generation House, a Washington, DC based youth homeless shelter. The funds from Virgin Mobile’s Freefest will be going towards operating the The RE*Generation House.
