Eddie Van Halen, guitarist for Van Halen (obviously), is recovering after undergoing surgery for a intestinal condition called Diverticulitis. As a result, the band will have to push back their November tour dates in Japan to 2013.
The 57-year old has since returned home after spending 3 weeks in the hospital. He’s expected to full recover in 4-6 months. Last week, via Facebook, Eddie thanked fans for their support, saying:
Thank you for all of your cool comments! Hanging out, taking it easy and following the doctors orders.
This news casts an unfortunate shadow on a great year that saw the band release their first album in almost 30 years with David Lee Roth. Incredibly though, in previous years, Eddie has already survived avascular necrosis and an oropharyngeal cancer, which left him with a prosthetic metal hip and half of his tongue.
