Two members of the Russian Feminist Punk band, Pussy Riot, are evading the Russian Police after being charged with “hooliganism” and sentenced to two years in prison. The two women have fled the country and are depending on support from fellow feminists in order to stay in hiding yet continue their movement. After Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, members of the feminist punk band, Pussy Riot, were sentenced to two years in prison on charges for “hooliganism”, the Russian police announced that they are still looking for other offenders in the band. The charges against them are based off of an anti-Putin “Punk Prayer” protest they staged at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral. In order to escape their charges, two of these women have left the country. The two members of the band plan on getting other foreign feminists to help them hide. They are currently keeping a low profile, however, other members of the band are still active in Russia. The group is notorious for staging unplanned and unauthorized performances which are aimed to expose corruption in the Russian government. Although two members are on the run while others face charges in Russia, fans and members agree that this movement is not going to die out any time soon. They are passionate about what they believe in and plan on continuing to speak out against the government.
