Listen and Download: Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra Release New Single “The Killing Type”

Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra are kicking off a 35-date international tour starting September 10. The tour will promote the forthcoming new release, Theater is Evil, on September 11th off of Palmer’s own label, 8ft Records. The band is offering a free download of the brand new song, “The Killing Type.” The ferocious love song contains a thumping baseline that showcases Palmer’s unique storytelling.

The band is experimenting with interactive technologies and personal artifacts like family photos in their live shows. Producer, production designer, and theatrical director for Theatre is Evil stated: “I find Amanda’s hyper-inclusive relationship with her audience to be hugely inspiring. Her fans aren’t distant observers, they’re family. So I’ve been working on ways to make the fans ad their contributions the primary motivation for all of our production decisions. Each new audience will have an experience unique to them. You’ll have to come to the show to find out more.”

Palmer describes the new tour and album, as “Rocky-Horror-meets-Scavenger-work to rehearse a whole new set of folks every afternoon, but it’s a great way to feel connected to the city we’re in.” The tour is the first time fans will get to see Amanda Palmer live with her band, The Grand Theft Orchestra. Speaking of the band, Palmer notes: “Everyone in the band has a super-power on stage. Our drummer is a director, our guitarist is a sound designer and a horn arranger, and out bassist is a classical conductor. And we’re all theater geeks, so the whole band is like a massive transformer robot can be a slamming rock band and also be a emotional avant-garde musical.”

Recently, Amanda Palmer was featured in an extremely NSFW video for the Flaming Lips’ “The First Time I Saw Your Face.” Her band also performed at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles last month. She also covered Suicidal Tendencies for the 2012 Repo Man tribute compilation CD.
