Dam-Funk to Release “I Don’t Wanna Be a Star” and Custom Drum Machine The Dam-Drum

Today Dam-Funk released a 12-inch ‘maxi-single,’ I Don’t Wanna Be A Star. Included is a cover of Prince’s “17 Days” (Soundcloud stream available below). Accompanying the single’s release is Dam-Funk’s own custom creation, the Dam-Drum. Read on for more details.

Dam-Funk collaborated with Bleep Labs to create a miniature drum machine and sequencer. This gadget, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yields four different sounds and several other features to alter the rhythms and beats. All sounds were made by Dam himself. Unfortunately, the product has already sold out. Pictures and a video tutorial are available below.

Bleep Labs is also known for designing Neon Indian’s pocket synth, otherwise described as a “triple triangle-wave oscillator noisemaking device,” according to Pitchfork. The drum was created in Austin, TX.
