2012 Global Festival announced their lineup for the festival on September 29th in New York City, which features Neil Young, Foo Fighters, and The Black Keys.
The Global Festival is a benefit concert that puts on performances to raise money and awareness for ending global poverty. The festival is in conjunction with one of the Coachella promoters, Goldenvoice/AEG. Expenses are getting paid for by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Sumner Redstone Charity Foundation, UNICEF, and Rotary International. It’s goal is to get more than 50,000 people aware of global poverty and to raise 100 million dollars in new commitments from charities, business, etc to donate to the NGO partners.
Hugh Evans, co-founder of the Global Poverty Project, tells Rolling Stone in an interview,
We wanted to make it different from other benefit concerts- we didn’t want it to be the same as say, Live 8.
