Bedazzled
If there is one thing that Missy Higgins can do, besides making music, it’s making music for a comeback album that was never meant to be. After severing ties with Warner Brothers five years ago, and declaring an end to her music career, the world was short one angsty Australian singer-songwriter. A hole in the music world that few felt but most definitely missed. Now with the release of her third album, The ‘Ol Razzle Dazzle, Higgins reclaims her musician status but also showcases a coming of age album more mature than 2004’s The Sound of White, or 2007’s On A Clear Night.
With sultry vocals and melodic sophistication, “Set Me on Fire” reintroduces Higgins, igniting a spark that fires through the rest of the eleven songs that follow. “Temporary Love” is reminiscent of 70s pop with a Higgins genuine jazzy spin and popular piano . With co-producers Brad Jones and Butterfly Boucher, The ‘Ol Razzle Dazzle is unpretentious and authentic. “Everyone’s Waiting” is a charmer that is both raw and bright.
Enlivened and exhilarated, The ‘Ol Razzle Dazzle is everything you’d hope to see from Higgins, and we can’t wait to see more.
