Farm Aid, the benefit concert for family farmers in the United States, has released its lineup for 2012. Audience members can expect performances by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and more.This year’s concert will take place on September 22 at the Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania. Performers Dave Mathews, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Willie Nelson are also on the Farm Aid Board. Farm Aid tends to book artists that are skewed towards indie folk, contemporary rock and country genres. Recent past performers include Phosphorescent, Wilco, Band of Horses and Tegan and Sara.

Farm Aid’s website states that it does not “provid[e] large grants and loans directly to farmers. …Instead [it] fund[s] farm support organizations” and provides a hotline for farmers. Functions Farm Aid offers a variety of services for farm business including land access, financial counseling & business planning, farm energy options, conservation programs and direct marketing assistance.
The benefit concert series started in 1985 and the first concert raised over $7 million dollars for American family farmers. The 26-year old concert series has taken place all over the United States and this year, Farm Aid will be celebrated in Champaign, Indiana.
