An Interview with G-Eazy At the Warped Tour

In a conversation with Warped Tour creator, Kevin Lyman, he explains that he wishes to diversify the tour bring a variety of fresh music a youth with eclectic tastes. A hip-hop, puck rock renegade, G-Eazy is amongst the freshman performers at Warped Tour and before his set, he sits down to rap with MXDWN.

G-Eazy, how did you come to play here at the Warped Tour?

It’s an idea we’ve been talking about for a long time. I thought it would be a lot of fun and this year I’ve been putting a lot of extra work in. I just released my last mixtape and have been doing a lot of touring. Everything has been building up, so this year I feel like I really have something to bring to the table.

What do you have in store for your performances at  Warped? Anything special?

Yeah! A lot of songs from my mixtape, The Endless Summer. A couple from the one before that, but I am debuting some new material. The new song was just premiered – “Mad.”

How many dates are you playing this year?

I’m doing the whole thing.

How did the audience at the other shows react to your new tunes?

It’s been great. Really, really, really fun. A lot of energy from the crowd. The coolest thing is that the kids are coming to Warped Tour for the music. They’re not standing there with their drinks trying to be cool and be seen.

Where can people find your music?

www.g-eazy.com or @G_eazy on twitter.

Do you get to meet with fans after your set?

Yeah! Every day.

What is one of the craziest thing a fan has said to you after a show?

Man, I don’t know if I can say… just people coming up and slipping numbers into your pocket, that sort of thing. “I’ll show you a good time afterwards,” is one I hear a lot.

What type of venues are you used to performing at?

Well, I tour a lot, but my favorite two spots are in Oakland, where I am from, and New Orleans, where I lived for the last 5 years. I always have fun playing in New York and LA.

Do you have a preference: mosh or dance?

Dance. I am not that gnarly.

Your Endless Summer mixtape just came out. What are you working on now?

The next one is 75% done. I brought my studio with me on the bus.

Very nice. When will we see that come out?

Hopefully right around the end of Warped Tour. I’m trying to time it so that by the time I’m off tour I can put everything behind marketing the new album.

And people can find that on your site?

It will be on my site for free and on iTunes if you want to support me.

Who are your favorite musicians of the day?

My friend T Mills. Champagne Champagne, who are also playing the same stage as me.

Any other musicians who inspire you outside of Warped?

John Lennon.

Good answer.

The Beatles are one of my favorite bands and I listen to them every day.

Anything else you want to say to your fans?

Fans, I love you so much. If you’re reading this I apprentice the love and come see me play on Warped Tour.

Fantastic. G-Eazy, we are looking forward to your set.

Thank you.
