The band, Mariachi el Bronx, recently covered The Decemberists’ song, “Los Angeles I’m Yours”, for The Onion’s A.V. Club.
The Onion’s A.V. Club is a music online blog that posts news stories and features about music. The A.V. Club started inviting bands to come in, pick a song out of a long list of classic songs that they came up with, and then perform it for fun. After the band performs the song, the song is crossed off of the master list so future bands can’t pick that song to perform. It’s an interesting way for bands to try out different styles. Some of the covers performed turn out horrible, and others turn out amazing. It is amazing to see what bands come up with when given a musical challenge.
This week, the Mariachi el Bronx was chosen to perform. Mariachi el Bronx is the Mariachi alter ego of hardcore punk band The Bronx. They flew all the way from LA to Chicago to perform for the A.V. Club.
