The organizers of the Electric Daisy Carnival issued statement in response to the two deaths of people following the event last week in Las Vegas. Insomniac said despite what happened, it will not affect future plans of the event returning to this city.
Both deaths reportedly happened outside of the festival walls. As reported by The Associated Press, Insomniac spokeswoman Erika Raney said, “Electric Daisy Festival, in many respects, is one of the safest places to be in Las Vegas during the event weekend’s operating hours. With law enforcement, private security teams, and fully staffed medical facilities housing doctors, nurses and emergency medical personnel, the venue functions like a small city.” A 31- year old male was hit by a truck while leaving EDC grounds on Monday and was drunk at the time of the incident. Reportedly, the individual’s close proximity to the festival actually increased the response time of two trauma care doctors. The second death was Emily Mccaughan, a University of Arizona pre-med student, died after falling from the 27th floor of her hotel to a 3rd-floor roof, and reportedly suffered paranoid delusions from taking ecstasy.
Despite the EDC having full medical facilities and extensive security, this is not the first time attendees connected to the event dying has happened. A 15-year old girl died from a drug overdose in 2010 in Los Angeles, and a teenager died at the Dallas edition in 2011.
