Sunset Strip Music Festival has just announced their 2012 lineup, featuring performances from Marilyn Manson, The Offspring, Steve Aoki, Bad Religion, Black Label Society, Far East Movement, De La Soul, Dead Sara and many more. This year’s celebration has chosen to honor The Doors as their guest of honor. More details on the festival after the jump.
The all-day street fest segment of the 2012 festival is Saturday, August 18, although the festivities technically begin on Thursday, August 16 with an all-star band celebrating the legacy of The Doors. Since the entire festival honors The Doors, festival-goers can expect to hear covers of their material throughout the three-day festival. It makes sense that Sunset Strip Music Festival would choose to honor The Doors, since the Venice Beach based gained notoriety on the Sunset Strip at the London Fog and Whisky A Go-Go. Here’s what The Doors’ organist Ray Manzarek had to say of the festival:
The Doors are honored to be celebrated by the magical, legendary Strip. A great leap forward from the Summer Of Love to today. What a great time we’re going to have! The Sunset Strip. Live bands, loud music, Rock and Roll. It’s the ‘60s all over again, and everyone is welcome. Dancing in the streets. Joy, Love, Peace. And we want to get it all together just One – More – TIME! Could this be the beginning of the new Golden Age? Let it be so.
