Calexico Announce New Album Algiers For September 2012 Release

Calexico has just announced that their new album, Algiers is set to be released September 11 via their new Anti Records label.  Check out the album art and track listing, along with the first single, “Para”, after the jump.

Algiers, was named after the historical neighborhood in New Orleans where the new album was recorded in a converted church in Algiers. “The place is strong and bold, soulful to the core, but surrounded by a sea of darkness,” Joey Burns explained in Calexico’s press release. “There’s something creepy and old on the edge of town and written throughout the town’s histories. Those kinds of aesthetics help with the writing.”

Algiers will be Calexico’s first album in four years, with their last release being 2008’s Carried to Dust.  Take a listen to the album’s first single “Para” and check out the track listing below.
