I Already Forgot Everything You Said
Brooklyn-based rockers the Dig mix sounds of modern rock, classic rock, indie rock and beach rock to produce a rad mellow sophomore album, Midnight Flowers. Songs are layered and structured well, and they build and change until the very last track.
None of the tracks steer too far away from the fairly mellow mood present throughout the record, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get dance-y and upbeat. “Red Rose in the Cold Winter Ground,” for instance, kicks off the album perfectly; offering a simple, soothing guitar riff and a keyboard. Frontman David Baldwin’s lyrics come mostly from passing time during a boring jury duty session and notes it’s the band’s favorite song to play live.
“Hole In My Heart,” while depressingly named, has a lot of toe-tapping and head-bobbing potential, plus this track will soothe the hearts of bassline enthusiasts. Things get quiet and tame in “Animals Screams” which features an acoustic guitar and Baldwin’s soft, somber vocals. The electric guitar doesn’t disappear though; it serves well as support alongside the leading acoustic.
The Dig is a band that could play a college party, at a bar, rooftops, and at the beach. Musically speaking, they’re pretty easy to get along with. Midnight Flowers isn’t too slow, or too loud, or too indie. Generally speaking, everyone will likely find at least one track they enjoy.
