In his upcoming memoir My Cross To Bear Gregg Allman details the final conversation he had with his brother Duane before Duane’s tragic motorcycle accident and the sad truth that it was an argument over cocaine.
Gregg Allman just released a new memoir called My Cross To Bear on May 1st and in it he writes about the sadness surrounding his brother Duane’s motorcycle accident that ultimately lead to his death. The shock of a sudden accidental death of a family member and bandmate is sad enough but Gregg revealed that the last conversation they had was an argument about cocaine.
Gregg explains that he had given his brother $100 for blow but when Duane failed to deliver the drugs Gregg broke into his house, snorted half a gram and left. Later Duane called and confronted him about the missing drugs prompting Gregg to lie and deny taking the cocaine.
“That last thing I ever said to my brother was a f—ing lie, man: ‘No, I did not,’ I told him … That was the last time I ever spoke to my brother.”
“I have thought of that lie every day of my life, and I just keep recrucifying myself for it. I know that’s not what he would want — well, not for long anyway. I know he lied to me about the blow in the first place.
“But the thing is, I never got the chance to tell him the truth.”
It must be a lot to live with, no wonder his memoir is called My Cross To Bear.
