Some of modern music’s favorite iconoclasts, Liars, have just announced the details for their new, self-titled release. Liars, their sixth studio album and followup to 2010’s Sisterworld, is due out June 5, 2012 via Mute.
Liars is Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross and they have built a name for themselves by making music unrestrained by expectation. The writing for this album was done more collaboratively than other Liars endeavors and took place largely in an isolated cabin in the mountains. Once they had the album written, they headed to LA to record and self-produce Liars.
Liars is supposed to remain true to the band’s established sound, while simultaneously being a complete departure from whatever expectations a fan might have about the album. Perhaps it is best put by Andrew himself, “If we aren’t confusing people, it’s not us,” he said. “If we aren’t confusing ourselves with what we do, then we’ve failed.” Stay tuned, as they’ll probably be releasing material off the album soon.
