Rachael Yamagata Live at St David’s Historic Sanctuary SXSW

At another venue located within a church-this time St. David’s Historic Sanctuary-Rachael Yamagata played one of only a handful of SXSW performances to end the final day of the festival. Yamagata is an extremely proficient singer-songwriters and charmed the audience with songs of longing and wisdom seeking. She delicately strummed on acoustic guitar while a backup electric guitarist churned out bleating effects as color. Yamagata introduced one song explaining how it came to her and then she quite accidentally stumbled onto a dead whale on the beach she was walking on. She then humorously quipped, “So I hope the next time you hear this song you think about dead baby whales.”
