Watch: Video for Gorillaz Featuring Andre 3000 and James Murphy “DoYaThing”

In case you hadn’t heard, the Gorillaz have put out a new song called “DoYaThing” featuring Andre 3000 and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem as a part of Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” project.  Take a look at the new music video that just surfaced, which definitely takes Gorillaz animation to a new level.

Once again, this video was directed by award-winning designer and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett.  There are a couple new characters this time around, Hewlett’s comical interpretations of Murphy and Andre 3000, although the standard characters, Murdoc, 2-D, Noodle and Russle are all there too.  Much like their video for “Stylo”, “DoYaThing” fuses the characteristically Gorillaz animated world with real life footage.

What makes this video unique is how the characters are presented.  Unlike many of their fantastical past portrayals, the Gorillaz appear gritty, worn out and struggling.  Perhaps the best moment in the video happens near the end, where Hewlett alludes to the car in “Stylo” and the windmill in “Feel Good Inc.”, representing some of the key Gorillaz imagery in a new, dilapidated form.  As predicted by Albarn, it appears the “windmill for all the land” has finally fallen down.
