Russian-American anti-folker Regina Spektor has announced her sixth studio album,What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, slated for release in late spring. The first single from the record, a haunting track titled “All the Rowboats,” has been released. Stream it after the jump.
Sire/Warner Bros. will release the new album, which Spektor recorded in Los Angeles with Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Fiona Apple, Dr. Dre, and some of Spektor’s past work). Spektor will tour with Tom Petty to promote her upcoming release (tour dates below). She also will release two Russian cover songs on 7″ vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day: “The Prayer of François Villon (Moltiva)” and “Old Jacket (Stariy Pedjak).” Record Store Day is on the 21st of April.
Spektor was born in the Soviet Union and raised in Manhattan, where she made a name for herself in the East Village’s anti-folk scene before breaking onto the national stage with 2004’s Soviet Kitsch.
