The Melvins Lite Announce New Album Freak Puke for June 2012 Release

The Melvins Lite, a stripped-down lineup taken from grunge rockers The Melvins, have announced release date for their newest studio album, Freak Puke. The album is due out from (fittingly) Ipecac Recordings on June 5 of this year.

The Melvins has undergone many lineup changes since it formed in 1983 with singer/guitarist Buzz Osbourne and drummer Dale Crover as the band’s two consistent members since 1984.

The Melvins Lite lineup reflects a change since the release of the group’s last three albums, The Bride Screamed Murder (2010), Nude With Boots (2008), and (A) Senile Animal (2006), all of which included contributions from Big Business members Jared Warren and Coady Willis. Willis is also a member of the group’s recent four-person ensemble.

The final Melvins Lite lineup will be a three-piece set comprised of Osbourne, Crover and bassist Trevor Dun. The new, smaller group will be in addition to–not a replacement of–the four-piece version of the group.

The four-piece Melvins (rejoined by drummer Coady Willis) will also embark on a spring co-headlining tour with New York City noise rockers Unsane. Full tour dates are available below.
