The singer-songwriter St. Vincent has released a new video for her song “Cheerleader.” The song comes from her latest album, Strange Mercy, which was released in September, 2011.
Born Annie Erin Clark, St. Vincent has successfully released three albums since forming her own band. As a talented multi-instrumentalist, Clark is known for her complex instrumental arrangements and wide variety of instruments. Her style has been called a mixture of chamber rock, pop, indie rock, and cabaret jazz.
In “Cheerleader,” St. Vincent sings of the desire for independence, pounding the repetitious “I” in the line “I don’t want to be a cheerleader no more.” The video portrays a larger-than-life Clark showcased in a museum. As she breaks free of her exhibit, however, her body turns to dust.
