On the most recent episode of SNL, there were two sharp-witted skits aimed at figures in the music industry. The first skit parodied Zooey Deschanel, Michael Cera, Mary Kate Olsen (played by Deschanel), and Bjork. The second, fueled by the half-time show antics at the Super Bowl, was targeted M.I.A. and Madonna.
The first segment was called “Bein’ Quirky with Zooey Deschanel”. The skit poked fun at hipsterdom, with Olsen and Deschanel basking in a celebration of obscure trends and thrift store delights. Bjork shows up to share her wisdom and even makes a sweater for an octopus. It’s pretty hilarious and awesome to see Deschanel unafraid to make fun of herself.
The second skit is a Piers Morgan parody that studies the highlights of a Superbowl. The SNL cast is relatively ruthless when Nasim Pedrad impersonates M.I.A., poking fun at her capitalistic nature and half-hearted convictions toward justice. They also have no problems comparing Cee Lo to Janet Jackson’s nipple, and taking a couple jabs at Madonna.
** Update, the second video has just gone down on Hulu, but we’ll make sure to update the video once it’s back online!
