Geoff Barrow has something interesting in the works for Portishead fans while they wait for a potential fourth album. As reported by Exclaim, multi-intrumentalist Geoff Barrow, Stuart Matthews and Katalyst have been working on a grandiose hip hop project called Quakers. The self-titled album out April 9 on Stones Throw Records, featuring a shocking 35 contributors and whopping 41 tracks.
The core of Quakers is comprised of Barrow under his new moniker Fuzzface, Portishead’s engineer Stuart Matthews, and Australian producer Katalyst (according to Barrow, Katalyst is the group’s lead producer/songwriter). Among the lengthy cast of contributors, Guilty Simpson, Aloe Blacc, Dead Prez, Phat Kat and Princo Po will serve as guest MCs.
Access Hip Hop has reported that physical copies of Quakers will consist of two CDs, the first CD including the 41 tracks, and the second including instrumental versions of the tracks. It should also be noted that many of the instrumentals were lifted from Barrow’s Exit Through the Giftshop score. You can preview the tracks here.
