R.I.P. Whitney Houston

As reported by Associated Press, Whitney Houston has died at 48 years old.  She was pronounced dead at around 4 p.m. today at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Though original sources suggested that Houston died by drowning, but the coroner recently reported that there was not enough water in the singer’s lungs for that to be true.  As family sources told TMZ.com, it is more likely that a combination of Xanax and alcohol caused her death.  Houston reportedly got many of her pharmaceutical drugs at Mickey Fine pharmacy, the same famous place where Michael Jackson filled his prescriptions.

Whatever the cause, her music inspired many and her legacy is sure to carry on for a long time.  Perhaps this can be most easily seen by the outpouring of love and memories from fellow musicians and celebrities on Twitter that occurred today.

Houston’s career peaked in the ’80s and ’90s, though her most recent album, I Look Like You, came out in 2009.  She was a six-time Grammy winner and an Emmy Award winning actress.  In the US alone, she sold over 55 million albums.
