The Gram Parsons Foundation, an addiction recovery charity focused on musicians and artists, has announced two launch events in Austin, Texas on March 14.
12 – 8 PM and 9 PM – 12 AM, Wednesday March 14 at the Hotel San Jose, Austin, TX
The first event will be a free concert in the parking lot of the Hotel San Jose, featuring Blitzen Trapper, Brendan Benson and Eric Burdon, and others (full lineup below). Burdon is famous as a founding member of both The Animals and War (called “Eric Burdon and War” during his tenure). The show runs from 12 to 8 pm on March 14, coinciding with SXSW. The concert will also stream live on the internet for free on the livestream music website VenueOne (link). The Gram Parsons Foundation calls the event a “celebration.”
Also scheduled for the 14th is the second event, a private VIP fundraiser running from 9 pm to midnight in the Hotel San Jose Courtyard. Gram Parson’s daughter, Polly, will speak to guests at an event featuring food, cocktails, and a live auction. The Foundation has also promised a live musical act will appear at the event, though there’s no word yet on who that will be.
The organization’s namesake, Gram Parsons, died in 1973 of an alcohol and morphine overdose. The guitarist and singer-songwriter, though only 26, was already revered for his work as a solo artist, member of the Byrds, and founder of The Flying Burrito Brothers.
